INTRODUCTION

The project involved the installation of an open-loop ground source energy system for a new building housing an event space and basement bar. Subsurface Hydro were chosen for this project as we were able to provide a compact rig capable of accessing the work area through a narrow entrance, as well as the necessary expertise to meet the client's requirements drilling in the scenic gardens of this historic college.

THE WORKS
Our works involved drilling a new 375 mm diameter borehole into the Woburn Sands aquifer. Due to sensitivity of the work area and risk of run-off of fluid into an adjacent ornamental lake, a fully lined work area around the drilling located was formed using an impermeable liner and ground protection mats.

The borehole was fitted with a carefully selected well-screen and filter pack. Airlift development techniques were used to settle the filter pack to ensure the borehole would reliably screen out any sand particles from the abstracted groundwater.
